Poems

My poem-essay Erinys: Three Studies (Oystercatcher Press, 2016) looks at Francis Bacon’s paintings in the light of his lifelong engagement with Greek Tragedy.

ibant obscuri (forthcoming from Knives Forks and Spoons Press) recreates a journey into the ancient underworld across different voices and time periods. I’m currently working on an exploration of the history and mythology of the West Wales coast, titled A Pembrokeshire Carol.

Individual poems have appeared in Poetry Wales,  POEM Magazine, Modern Poetry in Translation  and other places, as well as the anthologies Face Down in the Book of Revelation (Oystercatcher), Dear World (Frosted Fire Press) and Peloton (Templar Poetry). I co-edited the anthology Other Countries with Claire Trévien in 2014.

I wrote the libretto for Saffron Hall’s inaugural children’s opera The Glass Knight (2016), a modernist reimagining of the legend of the Saffron Walden basilisk involving over 300 pupils from local state schools alongside professional singers and musicians.
